We're working together for a healthy harbour.
Whangamatā Harbour Care
Whangamatā Harbour Care is a community volunteer group working to protect and restore the harbour and its native wildlife.
Together, we’re helping nature restore the harbour for future generations.
Vision statement
Our vision is of a healthy sustainable harbour and estuarine environment of mutual benefit to native flora and fauna, and the people of Whangamatā.
This means a nice, safe, clean harbour and estuary - with birds, fish and clean water. Just like the old days - for us to enjoy now and into the future.
What we do
We have a team of volunteers who run trap and bait lines to eradicate pests and predators.
We advocate for the protection of our harbour’s native birds, wildlife, and habitats.
Restoring native vegetation and planting species that belong to our coastal and estuarine ecosystems.
If left to their own devices, our mangroves would soon choke up all of our harbour.
